Compressors

Know the compressor before you replace it.

Commercial refrigeration uses a few compressor families. The type, the refrigerant and the electrical supply narrow the choice quickly.

Common compressor types.

Semi-hermetic reciprocating

Bolted construction that can be opened for service. Common on parallel racks and larger condensing units.

Hermetic reciprocating

Sealed and compact. Common in smaller condensing units and self-contained equipment.

Scroll

Few moving parts and smooth running. Widely used in condensing units and rack systems.

Screw

Rotary compressors for the largest loads, such as process refrigeration and industrial cold storage.

Before you order.

Confirm why the old compressor failed. Electrical faults, flooding and overheating can take out a replacement too, so the system should be checked before the new one goes in.

Send the nameplate.

Make, model, refrigerant, voltage and what the compressor serves. A clear photo of the nameplate is the fastest start.
